ABOUT ME

     Josie Ortegón is a multi-media professional currently working in marketing and social media in Austin, Texas. She was a former anchor, reporter and producer at KVIA ABC-7 in El Paso, Texas. 

     In her current role, Josie works on internal and external communications, marketing campaigns and manages social media content. She also regularly produces and hosts videos on YouTube. 

     While at KVIA, Josie covered several major stories including Pope Francis' historic visit to the border, the rise in Cuban migrants seeking refuge in El Paso and the trial of the sheriff's deputy accused of killing his partner in Las Cruces, New Mexico. 

     Josie also produced and anchored weekend evening newscasts. She oversaw on-air production and managed social media and web content.

     Before joining KVIA, Josie worked at NBCUniveral's, The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell in New York City and The McLaughlin Group with the late Dr. John McLaughlin in Washington, D.C.  She was also selected to represent the inaugural class of Capitol Broadcasting Company-University of North Carolina Diversity Fellowship at WRAL in Raleigh, North Carolina.

     Josie graduated from New Mexico State University in 2013 where she received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Journalism & Mass Communications and Government with a minor in Spanish. Josie also attended Georgetown University where she took courses in economics and politics. While at NMSU, Josie was a reporter, anchor and producer for News22, a student-run newscast which aired live on PBS.

    Josie loves learning about the ever-changing digital landscape and constantly works to improve her skills and experiment with content.
